Leave the seat empty
One of the most rewarding things you can do when hiring is not to hire for the sake of it.
It is not to get ‘just anyone’ in the door because ‘someone has to do the work’.
It may be understandable if the task at hand is simple enough, and can be done with minimal supervision.
But when the most important job of the person you are hiring is to make good decisions, hiring no one is better than hiring the wrong person.
An empty seat does your company more good than an hire gone wrong.
