Forget happiness. Choose enlargement
We often fixate on chasing happiness to our own detriment. This is one of the things I've realised from building a company focused on human flourishing for about half a decade.
Instead of making decisions based solely on our response to the eternally relevant question: 'Will this make me happy?', consider asking this other question instead.
“Will this choice enlarge me or diminish me?”
The framework credited to the Jungian therapist James Hollis is a reminder that some things that make us happy in the short term may hinder our growth in the long term.
However, when we prioritise what enlarges us, we often make some of the best decisions, regardless of how that makes us feel at this very moment.
