The Genly problem
‘Be authentic’ is a good creed to live by, until you discover it’s not good enough alone.
If the goal is to lead a life of bliss, of joy with those you choose to love, to enable enrolment, then being authentic isn’t enough.
Authenticity must co-live with connection.
You can decide you only want to be authentic. But when authenticity robs you of connection with those you love, it will rob you of joy.
If joy is not your goal, then you might be able to live a life of pure authenticity even if you chase everyone away from you.
